Desmond Posted November 4, 2005 at 12:22 AM Report Posted November 4, 2005 at 12:22 AM I've seen 人人 used in a sentence (钢琴考级比赛一前,人人都感到一种临战前的气氛) Talking with a friend about this, our guess that is 大家 is more of a general "everyone" kind of feel, whereas 人人 could be more of a "each and every person" kind of feel... but that's just a guess. Could anyone help clairify? Thanks! Quote
笨笨德 Posted November 4, 2005 at 05:46 AM Report Posted November 4, 2005 at 05:46 AM 人人 can only be used as the subject of the sentence and you will generally only see it written. Whereas 大家 can function as subject or object, and is considered less formal. 加油 Quote

Yes, you have said it! Sometimes, 大家 can be translated into “we” or “a lot of people”. For example: 快进来吧,大家都在等你呢。Come in. And we are just waiting for you. 大家都说他是个数学天才。A lot of people say that he is a genius at math. 大家 here means just a vague meaning of “we” or a lot of people (that depends on conditions), and “都” just adds some emphatic tone in the sentence. At this point, 大家 and 人人 are the same. 人人can be used to stress the meaning of “each and every person”. The famous example is: 法律面前,人人平等。Everybody is equal before law. Thanks! Quote
