Xiao Kui Posted November 9, 2005 at 02:45 PM Report Posted November 9, 2005 at 02:45 PM What is han sheng bing? I was listening to the Voice of Taiwan and I heard them talking about the victims of han sheng bing suing the Japanese government? Is it is a sickness or sth from the 30s 40s? Both? (couldn't find it in my dictionary) Quote
smalltownfart Posted November 9, 2005 at 06:58 PM Report Posted November 9, 2005 at 06:58 PM Probably 汉生病, as in 汉生病补偿法 (han4sheng1bing4 bu3chang2fa3) ie. Chinese victims compensation law, and the whole controversy with Japan. -stf Quote
Xiao Kui Posted November 9, 2005 at 10:49 PM Author Report Posted November 9, 2005 at 10:49 PM yeah, that's gotta be it. That's what it sounds like, but I didn't get the sickness part, but that makes sense that it's a nickname for the law - it fits the context perfectly. thanks, small town! Quote

Ncao Posted November 10, 2005 at 07:40 AM Report Posted November 10, 2005 at 07:40 AM Why would they sue the Japanese government for leprocy? Quote
starvken Posted November 10, 2005 at 08:51 AM Report Posted November 10, 2005 at 08:51 AM Japanese government had been the cononizer in Taiwan and korea about sixty years ago, they isolated local leprocyer from society, conpelled them into heavy physical labour ,etc.So victims sue the Japanese government and win. chenpv Posted November 10, 2005 at 10:03 AM Report Posted November 10, 2005 at 10:03 AM I found this : 麻风杆菌是挪威学者韩森于1874年首先发现的,所以麻风病也叫韩森氏病(Hán Sēn Shì Bìng). Quote
