xuechengfeng Posted November 11, 2005 at 03:48 AM Report Posted November 11, 2005 at 03:48 AM Hey, Back again to write another paper on chinese history. I know the general history around the opium war, but can anybody help me/point me towards resources that might discuss the masses response to the brits infiltrating the drug into the society? i also need to know the elite response, but I suppose that would be outlawing the drug, and then eventually going to war and getting smashed by the brits, then giving concessions. Also, did the mass public lobby for the government to outlaw or do anything about the drug, or was the majority basically selling it and / or consuming it? If they were lobbying for its outlaw, did it have any bearing on the qing government, or did they basically ignore the public? Also, did the public have any sort of reaction to the unfair concessions, i.e. treaty of nanjing? thanks if anybody can tell me and/or direct me to some books/links. Quote
