diff Posted November 11, 2005 at 09:55 PM Report Posted November 11, 2005 at 09:55 PM Hi, is there anything available online like http://www.mdnkids.com/, only in simplified Chinese ? Trying to get into newspaper studying, newsinchinese.com is too hard for me, still... Best regards, diff Quote
zhwj Posted November 12, 2005 at 01:30 AM Report Posted November 12, 2005 at 01:30 AM The Beijing Children's Weekly seems like it might be similar. You can also feed those pages through Adsotrans to get them annotated. Quote
kudra Posted November 12, 2005 at 02:25 AM Report Posted November 12, 2005 at 02:25 AM I don't know about you, but kids books drive me crazy. If you are not quite to the point where you are reading news papers, but know about 1k-1200, you might try A New Text for Moder China ISBN: 0887273122 I have only read the 1st 2 essays, and I'm at about the 1k level. Columbia Univ. uses this in their 3rd yr class. For myself, I will finish off the Huang and Stimson series(1300 character level) then tackle ANTfMC. Quote
roddy Posted November 12, 2005 at 02:33 AM Report Posted November 12, 2005 at 02:33 AM When I started reading newspapers I stuck to tabloids - they carry the simple 'Man eats wife', 'Chicken steals dog' type story, which are more narrative than analysis and are thus a good bit easier to understand. The Xinhua stuff on NewsinChinese.com is probably more concerned with major issues that will use more obscure vocabulary. Roddy Quote

vengaya Posted November 14, 2005 at 05:42 AM Report Posted November 14, 2005 at 05:42 AM This site is quite nice.... has a good deal of simple readings. Not for kids, so at least the topics are ok. http://www.uiowa.edu/~chnsrdng/index.html The Advanced Level readings seems not to be working, though. Quote
