With this interview, I try to get a picture of the way Chinese people think about Holland. I want to thank you in advance for your collaboration. 1. What picture do you have i your head when you think of Holland? 2. What do you associate Holland with? 3. What do you find positive about Holland? 4. What do you find negative about Holland? 5. What do you think is characterizing about Holland? 6. What do you think about the Dutch culture? 7. Which famous buildings of Holland do you know? 8. Which Dutch architects do you know? I hope to get a lot of answers on these questions. It would be great when I've got them all before november the 20th. Greetings Suzanne Quote

adrianlondon Posted November 25, 2005 at 07:14 PM Report Posted November 25, 2005 at 07:14 PM You could ask non-Dutch Westerners the same questions :-) Also, why do you refer to Holland which is only part of The Netherlands? Is that right? As a Brit, the distinction always confuses me. Quote
Suzanne Posted November 25, 2005 at 11:08 PM Author Report Posted November 25, 2005 at 11:08 PM Hey, Thanx for helping me with my research. Holland is the same as the Netherlands. Holland is a more familiar name for the Netherlands, that's why I choose this term. Also other outsiders may answer the questions. The more, the better! And for serial_killer: here you have a kiss! adrianlondon Posted November 26, 2005 at 10:42 AM Report Posted November 26, 2005 at 10:42 AM I would like to teach you a little bit about your own country, if I may :-) http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/europe/european-union/the-netherlands/ I always thought "Holland" was technically a subset (ie just a part, albeit a large part) of The Netherlands and the website above proves me right. Of course, most people just use the two names interchangably. Also, most Brits never venture out of Amsterdam anyway! I'm Suzanne, a student from Holland and I'm doing a research for the world Expo 2010 which will take place in Shanghai. With this interview, I try to get a picture of the way Chinese people think about Holland. I want to thank you in advance for your collaboration. 1. What picture do you have i your head when you think of Holland? Flat land full of canals and windmills 2. What do you associate Holland with? Stoned tourists in Amsterdam and laid back locals 3. What do you find positive about Holland? The laid back lifestyle (not drugs, I mean the generally unstressful life people lead) 4. What do you find negative about Holland? The pedestrialised street (is it called Nieuwendijk) parallel to Damrak at night. Dodgy knife-wielding druggies luckily too far gone to actually mug anyone. 5. What do you think is characterizing about Holland? Flat country exporting flowers 6. What do you think about the Dutch culture? In Amsterdam, a "keep the tourists coming" attitude to drugs. Outside of Amsterdam - not much, I'm afraid. It's a small country. 7. Which famous buildings of Holland do you know? Anne Frank House (for the content); any of the tall thin houses lining the central canals. 8. Which Dutch architects do you know? None. I know many famous painters, but never considered the Netherlands as a country producing great architects. Quote

studentyoung Posted May 22, 2007 at 03:02 AM Report Posted May 22, 2007 at 03:02 AM Why are mange tout called dutch beans in cantonese? Please check the words below. (And you will find some funny pictures, if you check the link below.
