Study Abroad Summer Programs

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been looking around to see what I can do in terms of study abroad programs for the summer... Are there any REALLY REALLY good ones that would be good for a student who has been studying for three years or so?

I've been looking into Choate's program and Princeton's program...

Thank you all very much!

IUP is considered by many to be the most intensive program. Whether or not it is "best" is harder to answer. If you go your chinese will definatly improve by leaps and bounds. It will do so however at the cost of your social life. Those who go usally say that they spend all day every day studying just to keep up and have very little time to explore the city.

Here is there website http://ieas.berkeley.edu/iup/announcements.html

The cost for the summer program is 4000 USD where that doesn't include housing (around 250 a month) food (which is either very cheep for chinese dishes or more expensive for western food) and textbooks which are more expensive than they need to be.. but they are all IUP only material.

If you want to do an intensive program of the same level, but for some reason can't get to china. Look into the Middleburry summer program http://www.middlebury.edu/academics/ls/chinese/

it is considered by many to be the best language program in the country and as it has complete language pledge (like IUP) you can insure you will only be speaking chinese cost for the 9 week program is 7700. They also do a program in China http://www.middlebury.edu/academics/sa/china/ run with the help of CET currently the program is in Hangzhou which is sopposed to be really nice and i'm sure the quailty is on par with other programs of its calliber.
