Quest Posted November 19, 2005 at 08:22 PM Report Posted November 19, 2005 at 08:22 PM I dont use yahoo, but some instant messengers like AIM are just not compatible with Chinese. Use MSN. Quote
roddy Posted November 20, 2005 at 12:28 PM Report Posted November 20, 2005 at 12:28 PM I use Yahoo and it's fine with Chinese, as is MSN. This is on Chinese XP though - what are you using? Quote
xiaojiang216 Posted November 23, 2005 at 09:40 PM Author Report Posted November 23, 2005 at 09:40 PM I am using Windows XP Professional... I can Instant Message people in Chinese fine, it's just that things such as usernames and away messages that I put up come out as either gibberish or "???"... But I can see other people's away messages fine... It's not a BIG PROBLEM, just quite annoying... Quote
Quest Posted November 24, 2005 at 09:14 PM Report Posted November 24, 2005 at 09:14 PM Did you set your system locale to Chinese? Quote
xiaojiang216 Posted November 25, 2005 at 01:07 AM Author Report Posted November 25, 2005 at 01:07 AM I think so..... Is that when you set your "preferred content" to Chinese? Or is a system locale totally different? How can I change my system locale if it's not set to Chinese? Sorry to cause so much annoyance! I apologize! 感恩節快樂! Quote
chenpv Posted November 25, 2005 at 03:20 AM Report Posted November 25, 2005 at 03:20 AM My computer/Internet knowledge is limited(read: none). So I dont know if the following is gonna help: (Sorry for some imprecise tech translations) Control Panel-----> Location&languages-------> Professional------>(It says that: Choose a language so that it can link with other non-unicode languages you want to use) maybe you can set it to 'Chinese simplified.' ---------->(and there is a box below, saying the chart for transformations) Click all the boxed related with Chinese---------> 'OK' ---------> you will probably restart your computer The other day, I downloaded a elec-'M-Webster' dictionary from the Internet, the characters of which can only correctly show up on condition that I set that to 'English(US)'. Once I change that, you know what, chinese characters in my OS, program files, part of websites are replaced by '??'. Funny, isnt it? Whenever I want to use the dictionary, I have to click '????' (开始), then '????????'(所有程序). I tried QQ, yahoo, msn in this circumstance. I have no problem with typing chinese but can't receive any correct characters. Quote
