Liu Bang Posted November 19, 2005 at 11:03 PM Report Posted November 19, 2005 at 11:03 PM I usually use simplified but recently I wanted to write to someone in traditional but i could not figure out how to get xp to let me input them using pinyin! I had to use some kind of encoding converter tool which didn't work very well. Is it possible to use pinyin for traditional? Quote
autumn Posted November 20, 2005 at 01:37 AM Report Posted November 20, 2005 at 01:37 AM Using the pinyin IME you can change the character set to traditional and then just type as normal. First show the language bar and then under options locate the Charset button. Hope this helps. Quote

rcxAsh Posted December 4, 2005 at 04:44 AM Report Posted December 4, 2005 at 04:44 AM Another thing you can try is to use the Microsoft New Phonetic IME from the Traditional Chinese (Taiwan) input services. At least, this is what I am using on my computer. If you go to the properties page and click the Keyboard Mapping tab, you can choose HanYu Pinyin: Quote

Quest Posted December 4, 2005 at 08:46 AM Report Posted December 4, 2005 at 08:46 AM Upgrade to Microsoft Pinyin IME 4.0 (2003) if you haven't done so, the XP default is 3.0. 4.0 has GBK support (includes rare -- e.g. Traditional & Cantonese characters) and many more functions. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3c381308-e169-41f3-812e-aa8774162795&displaylang=zh-cn If the simplified/tradition button isn't showing, right click the language icon EN/CH, enable "Additional icons in task bar", click the little down arrow to enable hidden buttons. amo Posted December 29, 2005 at 12:34 PM Report Posted December 29, 2005 at 12:34 PM Hi Quest. I looked at the download and it was HUGE. Is it only language support or...? I do not understand Cinese (yet) but I would like to install so my wife can type chinese on msn and email. Quote
Quest Posted December 29, 2005 at 09:01 PM Report Posted December 29, 2005 at 09:01 PM I looked at the download and it was HUGE. Is it only language support or...? It replaces IME 3.0, and offers a newer(more intelligent) Pinyin input method, larger character library, and several other enhancements. Quote
