Mao Zedong is the most famous Chinese person. He was born on December 22, 1893. He grew up in the Hunan province. Mao's family had six people in it. He was the oldest child. His father was a peasant. He made comparitively more money than other peasants, his family was still relatively poor. He grew up poor, so his father and mother thought that obtaining an education was not an important matter. However, Mao still went to college to study.

After he graduated, he went to Beijing to travel. In Beijing, he participated in the May 4 Movement. The May 4 Movement greatly developed his ideology. There he also met Yang Kaihui, and married her. She was his first wife. He eventually began participating in CCP meetings. He continued to move up in the ranks, then finally became the chairman of the CCP. The CCP and the KMT both wanted to found a new China, so they fought for a long time.

Finally, the CCP won and in 1949, established a new China. The opinions of the people were very helpful for the CCP. In past years, the Chinese let foreigners take advantage of them. However, during WWII, the CCP did not lose to foreign soldiers, so many people favored the CCP over the KMT. If they didn't beat the Japanese soldiers, it would have been embarrassing. However, the KMT established a government in Taiwan.

When Mao became the leader, he did many famous things. He implemented many famous policies, for example, the Cultural Revoultion. Many people did not like him because they felt his policies were often severe. They caused the economy to go bad, people were forced to go the country to study and work, etc. Also, if opponents spoke badly about Mao, they had to go to jail. Many Americans know Mao because he established relations with the American government.

Mao died on September 9, 1976. After he died, several CCP members quarreled because they all wanted to lead the new China. Nowadays, some people still like Mao, and some people dislike him. Whether one likes him or not doesn't matter because he will always be in Chinese history as an important figure.

Oops.

Actually you can use google to find the characters if you only know the pinyin of the word.

Go to google and choose language tool, then choose Chinese (fimplified) under the language interface. Now you can just type the pinyin in search bar, enter.

Google will give you a suggestion of the word in characters, and most of time it works very well.

thanks for the advice. although, i used to have the ability to read characters on my computer, but not anymore. I can only see them on NJ Star WP. Every time I try to change it it says I must insert Windows XP CD, which I don't have.
