Studying and working at the same time?

Is there any reason why a student at a Chinese university shoudl not earn money freelancing for global publications? Am I right in saying that in the first few years of life in China worldwide income is not of interest to the Chinese authorities, and so not taxable?

China has enough trouble taxing money earned within China. Chances of you having any trouble with money earned abroad while you are a student are minimal in the extreme.
