Xiao Kui Posted November 30, 2005 at 05:13 AM Report Posted November 30, 2005 at 05:13 AM This is a Chinese proverb right? Read somewhere that Confucius said it but we westerners tend to attribute everything Chinese to Confucius so I'm not sure. Anyway, how is it said in Chinese? "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime" thanks! -XK Quote
roddy Posted November 30, 2005 at 05:25 AM Report Posted November 30, 2005 at 05:25 AM Some discussion here, although it just throws Lao Tzu into the mix. That also links to this, and this page looks like it might be useful, but I can't get it due to Wikipedia being a threat to national security and my normally very reliable proxy having an off-day. Roddy EDIT: Got the wikiquote page, it just describes the quotes Chineseness as being dubious, no real info. Quote
Xiao Kui Posted November 30, 2005 at 05:31 AM Author Report Posted November 30, 2005 at 05:31 AM Thanks, roddy. I only read half the thread cause it's late but it looks promising. I WILL get to the bottom of this! Quote
