NooHin Posted December 1, 2005 at 01:57 PM Report Posted December 1, 2005 at 01:57 PM I will move to Shanghai next month. Anyone can recommend between Mandarin Center and East China Normal University for the Mandarin class. For me, the most important thing is efficiency of teaching as I don't have any basic knowledge about Mandarin at all. I think Mandarin center is more specialist with Mandarin teaching or What do you think? Please advice... Quote
malinuo Posted December 2, 2005 at 09:30 PM Report Posted December 2, 2005 at 09:30 PM I have no experience of neither, but I wouldn't think it matters that much. I don't believe that there is anything called "efficient teaching". What you get out of it is entirely up to "efficient learning", which is what you invest in it yourself. This doesn't mean that all teaching methods are equally good for you, but what is good for you may not be good for me and vice versa. For example, a school that assumes that you know all about general phonetics before you even begin, may be bad if you have no clue about such things, but it may be excellent if that has been your hobby for years. What the school assumes about your knowledge in different areas (grammar, phonetics, characters, etc.) is often very difficult to judge beforehand. Your challenge is to adapt to it, when you get there. Good luck! Quote
youpii Posted December 4, 2005 at 03:38 AM Report Posted December 4, 2005 at 03:38 AM East China Normal University is a top university and reputable for teaching Chinese to foreigners, moreover the campus is lovely, with two little rivers. I never heard on the Mandarin center, I guess it's a private school. Quote
NooHin Posted December 5, 2005 at 01:37 PM Author Report Posted December 5, 2005 at 01:37 PM Thanks for your recommendation. I agreed that the most important of learning is ourselves but good teacher is important as well. If you have good teacher who can teach difficulte thing more easy so we don't need to study that hard. Anyway, Right. Mandarin Center is the private school. That's why I think whether they are more speciallize for the language teaching than others. For ECNU, I also heard that is very good universtiy but I am still question about their language school. Please recommend... Quote
youpii Posted December 5, 2005 at 02:19 PM Report Posted December 5, 2005 at 02:19 PM foreign students that I met from ECNU were happy, but everyone's expectations might be different maybe you shoud read that thread: http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/6688-fudan-jiatong-sisu Quote
