Dave Posted December 11, 2005 at 10:21 AM Report Posted December 11, 2005 at 10:21 AM Is it just my computer or is it known that www.blogger .com is not available any longer? I've tried to read some blogs and it always redirects me, after a while I get the white error page, anyone experiencing the same difficulties or is it because I use Firefox? Take care Quote
phbriggs Posted December 12, 2005 at 02:21 AM Report Posted December 12, 2005 at 02:21 AM Just checked and it is up and running Quote
phbriggs Posted December 12, 2005 at 02:23 AM Report Posted December 12, 2005 at 02:23 AM It may be a connection timeout. If you know how, try changing the settings to allow additional time before the software automatically stops trying to connect. Quote
kailin Posted December 12, 2005 at 11:42 AM Report Posted December 12, 2005 at 11:42 AM If you were in China I would say blame it on the Chinese internet police--blogger blogs have recently been re-blocked here. But unless Italy has recently suffered an extreme setback in cultural freedoms, I don't know what the answer is. Quote
Dave Posted December 13, 2005 at 11:07 AM Author Report Posted December 13, 2005 at 11:07 AM Thanks for your input, I am currently living in China and I guess thats why I cant get practically any acess on blogs, and wikipedia and a BBC News and a couple of others...I think its ridiculous all this censoring. nephridium Posted December 14, 2005 at 06:46 AM Report Posted December 14, 2005 at 06:46 AM For Wikipedia articles you can check mirrors such as answers.com. And the BBC isn't the only news outlet, you can also go to CNN or even the news agencies' sites such as www.ap.org. Don't know about mirrors for blogs though, I don't read blogs regularly. Quote

got_no_jaffas Posted February 17, 2006 at 10:51 AM Report Posted February 17, 2006 at 10:51 AM i have to add my gratitude as well as it seems the chinese government has also blocked my web business site for some reason! you'd think they'd have better things to do than censor some struggling dotcom entrepreneur. i was rather depressed during my first week in beijing realising that i can't check on my web business. many thanks... yingguoguy Posted February 17, 2006 at 11:21 AM Report Posted February 17, 2006 at 11:21 AM I can access the the BBC website from Hebei, the Chinese language section is still blocked though. When I came to China the whole site seemed blocked but I checked it a couple of months ago and could get through. That gollum wikipedia thingy is really useful, it's been very iritating not being able to access wikipedia. On the same topic I suppose everyones seen the latest comments on China's internet regulation Quote

When I came to China the whole site seemed blocked but I checked it a couple of months ago and could get through. As far as I know, the BBC website has never been completely blocked. I remember using it 9 years ago. What is blocked, and always has been, is the News section of the site, (along with the Chinese section.) BBC Radio is not blocked. It is apparantly OK to listen to the news, but not to read it! That gollum wikipedia thingy is really useful, it's been very iritating not being able to access wikipedia. Remarkably, wikimirror has been overlooked by the Nanny! More direct than Gollum. Quote
yingguoguy Posted February 18, 2006 at 07:13 AM Report Posted February 18, 2006 at 07:13 AM Your right, news.bbc.co.uk is still blocked. Looking closer it seems I've been accessing the site through http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk for the past couple of months, which has what I assume is exactly the same content. Quote
