oblo Posted December 12, 2005 at 07:48 PM Report Posted December 12, 2005 at 07:48 PM A guy asked me to translate a sentence to tattoo on his arm . The sentence is simple but I want to be sure to get the best translation. Which of the following three sentences get closer to the english: "Passion for Life". • 生命的激情 • 生活的热望 • 热爱生命 Thanks, Ramon Quote
skylee Posted December 12, 2005 at 11:16 PM Report Posted December 12, 2005 at 11:16 PM I like the 3rd one best -> 熱愛生命 (note that if you use traditional characters, there will be a heart in your love, otherwise you will only get friendship there ) Quote
oblo Posted December 13, 2005 at 08:03 AM Author Report Posted December 13, 2005 at 08:03 AM I agrre with you Skylee. Moreover the third one is more concise. Actually I have a doubt about the semantic of "passion". It seems that in chinese culture context there is not a direct translation for passion. Western idea of passion is based in greek culture and christian idea of passion of christ. Instead chinese have been influenced by buddhist concept of passion that is something like lust; something to avoid, to get rid of. Quote
