Is this good Chinese?

我小的时候就从你们听到不少南京的故事

Does the above sentence sound sufficient & natural in Chinese?

Or would you prefer the following (with 那儿 added)? and why?

我小的时候就从你们那儿听到不少南京的故事

( I'd like to know if the above versions are both acceptable. A rough translation for them would be: From very young age I have heard many things about Nanjing from you (you= father & mother in the context where the sentence is taken from))

This sentence reads better.

'从' is a preposition shows the starting point of time or movement. As in the sentence aforementioned, '那儿' shows the position which cannot be depicted by '你们'.

Thanks chenpv. You're right there. I brought this up also because I thought English speakers would be by habit omitting 那儿 in sentences like these.

Cheers,

Hi florazheng, long time no see!

This sounds smooth. I ain't able to explain it.
From what chenpv said above, I imagine there may be some rule like this: 从 requires a time- or place-word as its complement; and since 你们 is not a place word, so we need to add 那儿 to make it one: 你们那儿

To test my "mini theory" above, can someone please confirm if the following Chinese sentence sounds OK?:

"I heard it from her!" = 我从她那儿听到了!

Hi Hashirikata,

Nice to see you again! Yes, I has hardly visited here for a time. I teach myself English and a little Japanese just for fun.

Yes, your Chinese translation sounds good.

((((((((((((((((((((applaud))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
