anonymoose Posted December 24, 2005 at 10:52 AM Report Posted December 24, 2005 at 10:52 AM Any help with the phrases below would be appreciated. For 2 and 3, the parts in question are in bold. The last one sounds like a name, but makes no sense in the context of the article. HashiriKata Posted December 24, 2005 at 11:46 AM Report Posted December 24, 2005 at 11:46 AM Just a quick post of what I know to keep you going but I'm sure a native speaker will be of much more help: 3) 东岳宫 is a place name (the name of a 市场 ?) 2) I think you disected this phrase 女主人公意乱情迷 at a wrong place. It should be: 女主人公 = the leading lady; 意乱情迷 = be bewildered 1) 实不忍相拒: This could mean "really can't bear to separate (them)" but without context, I can't be sure. Quote
anonymoose Posted December 24, 2005 at 03:03 PM Author Report Posted December 24, 2005 at 03:03 PM Thanks. Those seem to make sense. The problem with 2) is that 意乱情迷 isn't in my dictionary. OK, here's another one: 利娟明白自己的迷情给丈夫带来了伤害,但不理睬自己应该是丈夫常在外面带女人。 Firstly, what does 迷情 mean specifically? Secondly, what is the meaning of the second half of the sentence? It doesn't make much sense to me. Quote
HashiriKata Posted December 24, 2005 at 03:17 PM Report Posted December 24, 2005 at 03:17 PM Firstly, what does 迷情 mean specifically? Here's just a guess :迷情 = Improper love/ affection/ relationship (= a relationship that you'd come to regret later) ? Quote
Tachiana Posted December 24, 2005 at 03:33 PM Report Posted December 24, 2005 at 03:33 PM "Mi2 qing2" yinggai shi "mi2 zui4" de "mi2"; "qing2" shi4 "ai4 qing2" de "qing2". Suoyi, "miqing" keyi fanyi cheng "passionate love". Just a guess, too. And sorry I can't type Chinese here. Quote
semantic nuance Posted December 24, 2005 at 05:15 PM Report Posted December 24, 2005 at 05:15 PM 意亂情迷 may be dazed and confused in love. 实不忍相拒 cannot really bear to say no to someone or something, 拒 is 拒絕 here, meaning refuse, decline, etc. Hope it helps! Quote
xiaocai Posted December 24, 2005 at 08:09 PM Report Posted December 24, 2005 at 08:09 PM 但不理睬自己应该是丈夫常在外面带女人。 I couldn't understand this sentence at all. Quote
Quest Posted December 24, 2005 at 09:23 PM Report Posted December 24, 2005 at 09:23 PM I couldn't understand this sentence at all. I agree it's not a well written sentence. 利娟明白自己的迷情给丈夫带来了伤害,但丈夫不理睬自己却是因为他常在外面玩女人。 东岳宫 is the name of the mall. Quote
HashiriKata Posted December 25, 2005 at 08:06 AM Report Posted December 25, 2005 at 08:06 AM 但不理睬自己应该是丈夫常在外面带女人。anonymoose, would you compare with the original and see if there's any typos/ missing characters in this sentence? Quote
