HashiriKata Posted January 6, 2006 at 05:53 PM Report Posted January 6, 2006 at 05:53 PM Don't know but just have a go 殷鉴 is a kind setback from the past, which can be taken as a lesson for the future; "a bitter lesson" to learn from ? Quote
skylee Posted January 7, 2006 at 12:47 AM Report Posted January 7, 2006 at 12:47 AM Xiandai Hanyu Cidian says, "... 殷人滅夏,殷人的子孫應該以夏的滅亡作為鑒戒。後來用來泛指可以作為後人鑒戒的前人失敗的事。" The Yins of Shang Dynasty overthrew the Xia Dynasty. The descendants of the Yins should remember why the Xia fell to avoid similar failure. As HashiriKata said, 殷鑒 is the bitter lesson to be learnt from past failure not to be repeat again. Quote
