wix Posted January 7, 2006 at 06:39 AM Report Posted January 7, 2006 at 06:39 AM Numerous posts on Forumosa and a couple of articles in the Taipei Times in the past few days have stated that students studying at non-university language schools in Taiwan are no longer eligible for visa extensions. I have posted some information about this on my blog. However, an editorial in today's Taipei Times suggests the government has come to its senses and reversed this ridiculous policy. Hopefully this is correct. Quote
Demarcgs Posted January 8, 2006 at 06:16 PM Report Posted January 8, 2006 at 06:16 PM I know it depends on your Home Nation. I just checked with my travel agent yesterday, and she had said that i don't need a visa to enter Taiwan. I am also an American. Quote
wix Posted January 10, 2006 at 02:57 PM Author Report Posted January 10, 2006 at 02:57 PM Demarcgs: It is important to note that the issue doesn't concern entering the country or getting a visa, but extending your visa. Many nationalities can enter Taiwan for 30 days without a visa, but this is not extendable. IF you wish to study, work or remain in the country for an extended period for whatever reason you must apply for a visa before you arrive in Taiwan. Once in Taiwan you can then apply to extend that visa. Hopefully the situation has been sorted out. I haven't seen any further news reports. Quote
wix Posted January 18, 2006 at 01:56 PM Author Report Posted January 18, 2006 at 01:56 PM This thread at Forumosa gives another update on the situation. The Taipei Times may have been a bit premature in writing its editorial. If you are planning to study in Taiwan in the near future please check with the school you are enrolling at about the exact situation with regard to visas. Quote
