skylee Posted January 11, 2006 at 12:46 PM Report Posted January 11, 2006 at 12:46 PM I was going to post this when I saw your post. I am bored being a 李. Quote
HashiriKata Posted January 11, 2006 at 01:22 PM Report Posted January 11, 2006 at 01:22 PM I am bored being a 李. If 李 is too common for you, I suggest you adopt "Boredbeinga 李" as your surname. You'd sure feel unique again.(And when you introducing yourselves, you can still say "I'm Boredbeinga 李" ) Quote
Ncao Posted January 11, 2006 at 01:26 PM Report Posted January 11, 2006 at 01:26 PM I always thought 陳 was the most common Chinese last name. It's maybe because I know lots of 陳 and not very much 李. Quote
Ian_Lee Posted January 11, 2006 at 09:03 PM Report Posted January 11, 2006 at 09:03 PM The most interesting point about the name sequence is not the most popular surname but the least popular one. The least popular surnames are: 難 死 山 Each clan just got about 1,000 people in the whole country: http://news.chinatimes.com/Chinatimes/newslist/newslist-content/0,3546,110505+112006011200082,00.html Quote
Ncao Posted January 11, 2006 at 10:18 PM Report Posted January 11, 2006 at 10:18 PM The least popular surnames are:難 死 山 They're real surnames!? I would hate to have 死 as a surname. Quote
Quest Posted January 12, 2006 at 12:50 AM Author Report Posted January 12, 2006 at 12:50 AM I am bored being a 李. Are you happy then your kids probably won't inherit that surname? I always thought 陳 was the most common Chinese last name. It's maybe because I know lots of 陳 and not very much 李. I think a long time ago, it used to be 陈李张黄何,欧周胡马麦,史廖林白蔡 ,谭程莫徐傅... Quote
Ncao Posted January 12, 2006 at 02:00 AM Report Posted January 12, 2006 at 02:00 AM The least popular surnames are:難 死 山 In addition to odd Chinese surnames. I saw somewhere on the net there was a list of Chinese names and one of them was 王八蛋. I heard of people giving their children odd names before, but I can't imagine someone would name their kid 八蛋 if surname was 王. Quote
skylee Posted January 12, 2006 at 12:45 PM Report Posted January 12, 2006 at 12:45 PM Are you happy then your kids probably won't inherit that surname? My sister's husband is also a 李 so their child is also a 李. Quote
Quest Posted January 13, 2006 at 12:01 AM Author Report Posted January 13, 2006 at 12:01 AM My sister's husband is also a 李 so their child is also a 李. I didn't know you have a sister too. Wouldn't 李李联婚 look weird? I've always wondered... Quote
Outofin Posted January 14, 2006 at 06:07 PM Report Posted January 14, 2006 at 06:07 PM I'm a 李 too. But my feeling is that in south China, 陈 and 黄 are more common. Quote
Lu Posted January 18, 2006 at 03:07 PM Report Posted January 18, 2006 at 03:07 PM In Taiwan it's all Chen and Lin. Also a lot of Zhang and Huang. Quote
