yingguoguy Posted January 11, 2006 at 01:17 PM Report Posted January 11, 2006 at 01:17 PM Everytime I leave a restaurant, the staff say something like manzu to me. I'm guessing 满足 "leave satisfied" right?. I've been responding with a generic 谢谢 再见, but is there an appropriate idiomatic response? Quote
gougou Posted January 11, 2006 at 01:21 PM Report Posted January 11, 2006 at 01:21 PM That should probably be man zou (慢走), walk slowly... Quote
atitarev Posted January 11, 2006 at 11:17 PM Report Posted January 11, 2006 at 11:17 PM man zou (慢走) is sort of, "take it easy", "be careful when you walk" - a friendly, quite common remark Quote
Mugi Posted January 12, 2006 at 03:37 AM Report Posted January 12, 2006 at 03:37 AM màn zǒu 慢走 A more natural English translation might be: "See ya" or "Take care" Quote
liuzhou Posted January 12, 2006 at 04:32 AM Report Posted January 12, 2006 at 04:32 AM 慢走 was the first comment made to me by a Chinese person which I really understood. We had just returned to where I lived, after a banquet. It was pissing down with rain and my friends dropped me off at the gate of my danwei. As I climbed out of the car, wondering where I left my umbrella, one friend said 慢走! I thought "What an idiot! Go slowly? No! I'm going to run all the way!" Later, I learned two things. 1) It's just an expression equal to "take care", "see ya" etc. 2) He was an idiot! Quote
PeterMUC Posted January 12, 2006 at 02:26 PM Report Posted January 12, 2006 at 02:26 PM I heard this expression a couple of times before. What is the appropriate answer? 谢谢? Quote
Quest Posted January 12, 2006 at 11:38 PM Report Posted January 12, 2006 at 11:38 PM I heard this expression a couple of times before. What is the appropriate answer? 谢谢? I think "好, 再见啦。" is more appropriate. Quote
amego Posted January 13, 2006 at 09:11 AM Report Posted January 13, 2006 at 09:11 AM you can also say "好的." Quote
