Student Visa

I'm suppose to start SISU in Feburary this year. However, the college letter of acceptance and visa information has not yet arrived and it's been almost a month since it was sent. I contacted the college and they said that it's too late to make another set for me and suggested I get a tourist visa which they will help change to a student visa when I arrive. Most likely at my cost.

Can anyone suggest any alternatives? Do I need the college information before getting the student visa or can I just get one?

In your country you need to show the university visa form to get the student visa.

In your case, the solution proposed by SISU sounds right. You will incur the extra tourist visa cost but you're likely to pay less for the student visa in China than in your country, and you're likely to get a multiple entry visa instead of a single entry one.

I've finally received my documents.

Another question. When getting the student visa can you request that the visa extend past the time outlined in the document? Maybe for an additional month?

Hi Woliveri,

you can try by asking a longer visum, but probably it won't work..... Maybe you can extend the visum in Shanghai. If that doesn't work, take a short vacation to Hongkong, you can easily get a tourist visum there.
