Lu Posted January 18, 2006 at 02:56 PM Report Posted January 18, 2006 at 02:56 PM Goldie: that's why it sounded so weird to me, it was not a gay place at all and the man who called the waiter was on a date with me, so most likely also not gay. Semantic nuance: yeah, I know, I used to live in a girls' dorm and if there was some note on the board it was also sometimes addressed to '[room number] de meinv'. I know it's accepted usage, but I wouldn't use it myself. Quote
zhxlier Posted January 20, 2006 at 06:58 PM Report Posted January 20, 2006 at 06:58 PM I, as the die-hard Beijinger, always begin my address to waiters and waitresses with "劳驾". I never use ”小姐“. Quote

Long Zhiren Posted January 25, 2006 at 07:59 PM Report Posted January 25, 2006 at 07:59 PM I've heard this term used (I use it too) for male waiters: 少爺 Yes. I've also heard 伙記 used in Mandarin, only once though. I thought the person was being called 火雞! Quote
