bhchao Posted January 16, 2006 at 04:08 PM Report Posted January 16, 2006 at 04:08 PM Any fans of Dave Brubeck here? One of my favorite pieces is the classic Take Five, which starts off with Paul Desmond playing the saxophone, and Joe Morello taking over with the drums in the middle of the piece, and finally resumes/ends with Desmond continuing with the saxophone. Brubeck provides the rhythmic beat on the piano non-stop. His Blue Rondo a La Turk and Brandenburg Gate are also my favorites. The guy is old, 85 years old, but he still remains a legend in jazz history. Quote
roddy Posted January 16, 2006 at 04:28 PM Report Posted January 16, 2006 at 04:28 PM Take Five is one of those pieces of music I never get tired of hearing. Here's a baidu mp3 link, for those of you who want to give it a try. Quote

Xiao Kui Posted October 27, 2006 at 11:36 PM Report Posted October 27, 2006 at 11:36 PM "40 Days" is my favorite Brubeck composition. I discovered it on a CD I got while in China. If you're a Brubeck fan you should at least check it out. Quote
Gulao Posted October 30, 2006 at 04:39 AM Report Posted October 30, 2006 at 04:39 AM Take 5 is among my favorite jazz pieces of all time. I haven't heard much other Brubeck, but Take 5 gets a whole lot of credit just for making 5/4 sound flowing and groovy. As far as Jazz arrangers go, though, I prefer Miles Davis. Quote
nephridium Posted October 30, 2006 at 05:10 AM Report Posted October 30, 2006 at 05:10 AM Brubeck is great. There is a reason his more famous tracks are used quite often in the media. ;) If you're in a chill-out mood imho some smooth Coleman Hawkins is nice as well. If you like Brubeck you should also check out songs like Herbie Hancock's version of "Summertime" or the "St. Louis Blues". Quote

BFC_Peter Posted November 2, 2006 at 09:18 PM Report Posted November 2, 2006 at 09:18 PM I am not and never have been a jazz fan but many years ago I shared a room at University with a big jazz fan and after two years of listening to his records (played on my stereo!!) there are three jazz songs that I now like very much: - Take Five, Unsquare Dance and Blue Rondo a la Turk. All by Dave Brubeck of course. These are definitely my favourite jazz pieces of all time I've even downloaded Take Five on to my iPod and dare to play it when others can here! But as for the rest of it - no thanks Quote
