pookie Posted January 17, 2006 at 03:22 PM Report Posted January 17, 2006 at 03:22 PM Hi, I'm planning a trip to either China, Taiwan, or Japan soon. I've got lists for cheap travel agents dealing with China and Taiwan. Does anyone know of any for Japan? The cheapest fare online I've found is around £500 ($850). Also, who else thinks getting to Taiwan is a rip-off? £700+!!!!! I'm going to go to HK next time and will swim the Taiwan straight Quote
adrianlondon Posted January 17, 2006 at 04:44 PM Report Posted January 17, 2006 at 04:44 PM There's a Taiwanese travel agents near Warren Street on the Euston Road. They'll be your best if you want to fly to Taiwan. I don't know anywhere which would be extra cheap for Japan, apart from wandering around all the Japanese places near Hannover Square. Quote
adrianlondon Posted January 17, 2006 at 04:47 PM Report Posted January 17, 2006 at 04:47 PM My partner just paid £450 (plus taxes though) to fly to Taipei from London. Via Vienna. Quote
Shadowdh Posted January 17, 2006 at 10:37 PM Report Posted January 17, 2006 at 10:37 PM Try STA travel (but have heard mix things there) or trailfinders... Quote
liuzhou Posted January 18, 2006 at 03:54 AM Report Posted January 18, 2006 at 03:54 AM I've used Travelbag a few times over the years and they have always found me good deals. Don't just go by their online info. I have found in the past that calling a human being brings up better deals. Probably true for most companies. Quote
smalldog Posted January 18, 2006 at 10:42 AM Report Posted January 18, 2006 at 10:42 AM Wang Dynasty is popular among Chinese students in the UK and prices on the website do look very cheap (no English website though). Never used them. http://longtalk1.wanguk.com/stick_price_list.php3 To Taiwan it might be cheaper to buy a ticket to Hong Kong and then catch another flight from HK or Macau -- maybe there are some budget airlines doing these routes? pookie Posted January 18, 2006 at 10:50 AM Author Report Posted January 18, 2006 at 10:50 AM Cheers guys. I normally take an indirect flight to HK, Via Amsterdam, or Hamburg. And then on the ultra-safe China Airlines to Kaohsiung. Prefer Dragon air to China Airlines though. I seem to remember the Chinese supermarket in Notts having Tokyo flights also. A question: why do students or people with a Taiwanese passport get cheaper flights? Quote
onebir Posted March 15, 2006 at 06:22 PM Report Posted March 15, 2006 at 06:22 PM There's a stack of travel agents in chinatown in london that have cheap deals, eg around £300 return to major cities in mainland china. Jade Travel, Omega Travel and Eupo Air are the ones i can remember. A search for travel agent + newport st/shaftesbury avenue/gerrard st/charing cross rd should throw up some more... They're called 'ethnic sole agents' - the airlines give them good deals on a chunk of their seats - but they do sell to anyone ;-) Quote
yorkie_bear Posted March 16, 2006 at 07:50 AM Report Posted March 16, 2006 at 07:50 AM We always used to get great deals with Sagitta travel in Chinatown - they'd have all their best prices written in Chinese and one got the impression that the rates were available by ethnic origin !! Am surprised at how expensive flights to Taiwan are. Even on EvaAir?? Quote
Shadowdh Posted March 16, 2006 at 06:44 PM Report Posted March 16, 2006 at 06:44 PM A friend just book his tickets for travel to China at the beginning of July and paid around £380 all up (yep incl taxes)... he looked online and found cheapies with lufthansa... Quote
adrianlondon Posted March 16, 2006 at 06:49 PM Report Posted March 16, 2006 at 06:49 PM Where in China? I find Shanghai can often be got for that kind of price, but not Beijing (from London). Quote
Shadowdh Posted March 16, 2006 at 10:35 PM Report Posted March 16, 2006 at 10:35 PM It was to Beijing, we are going there to study in July and he was commenting on the ticket the other day... 383 I think was the price... Quote
onebir Posted March 16, 2006 at 11:23 PM Report Posted March 16, 2006 at 11:23 PM BA has a special deal in the london chinatown travel agencies at the moment - £380 direct to beijing, £400 to hongkong. 1 year return, £50 to change return date. Offer's open until 26th march... Quote
adrianlondon Posted March 17, 2006 at 12:02 AM Report Posted March 17, 2006 at 12:02 AM Thanks for that. I don't actually go to Beijing until September (and I can't book too early, because I have a habit of finding excuses - ie work - to delay my study trip) but will check out chinatown nearer the time.
