kudra Posted January 21, 2006 at 08:52 PM Report Posted January 21, 2006 at 08:52 PM you can look at members' occupations. Of course you can't tell if a particular member is a "会说中文的外国人" Perhaps this could be a anonymous poll. You might get more feedback that way. more grist for Roddy's ad revenue marketing. Quote
流 Posted January 21, 2006 at 10:07 PM Report Posted January 21, 2006 at 10:07 PM "Hui4 shuo1 zhong1wen2 de5 wai4guo2ren2” is grammatically correct? Cool. I love Chinese now. It makes sense. Hmm, well, since I'm not in China, I don't have a job in China (that was the question, right?). If I can, I might try to get a part time job while I'm in Taiwan (once I get a better grip on the Chinese language), pending the restrictions, of course 我沒有什么的工作。(Even in Meiguo) Quote
xiaojiang216 Posted January 21, 2006 at 10:37 PM Author Report Posted January 21, 2006 at 10:37 PM 你好~ 有人告诉我大多数会说中文的外国人是老师. 这是概括吗? 我长大以后,我有什么机会? Cool. I love Chinese now. Yes, me too! 谢谢~ Quote
carlo Posted January 22, 2006 at 02:29 PM Report Posted January 22, 2006 at 02:29 PM 你好! Quote
Tiankong Posted February 24, 2006 at 10:13 PM Report Posted February 24, 2006 at 10:13 PM I don't know about other places but my girlfriend, who's from Beijing, told me that there are so many opportunities there for 会说中文的外国人. rayinasia Posted February 25, 2006 at 05:46 PM Report Posted February 25, 2006 at 05:46 PM Tiankong said: "You can basically choose whatever you want to do and the pay is incredible" Really? I think that Chinese-speaking foreigners can find plenty of jobs in Beijing and other cities, but it hasn't been my experience that employers willing to pay above-average salaries are simply waiting for you to walk in the door. The number of foreigners in China is growing daily--- and the number of Chinese-speaking foreigners is also growing--- this means that companies willing to work something out with a foreigner with passable Chinese and a Chinese staff with passable English can cover most of their bases without breaking the bank. The really high-paying jobs for foreigners seem to be for the fortunate ones who came on expat packages, a rather surprising number of whom speak very little Chinese at all before they get here--- but have tons of experience in their respective home countries. As for the original poster's question, many Chinese-speaking foreigners do all sorts of interesting jobs--- I met a guy once who was a building inspector for high-end housing construction sites. I wonder, is there anyone out there doing any trilingual work? Does anyone speak English, Chinese and Japanese? Quote
novemberfog Posted February 26, 2006 at 07:37 AM Report Posted February 26, 2006 at 07:37 AM I wonder, is there anyone out there doing any trilingual work? Does anyone speak English, Chinese and Japanese? I am working in Japan, but I admit my Chinese is not good enough for work. I work completely in Japanese except for foreign customers. But now I am studying Chinese very hard because the company built a new office near Shanghai. So sometimes I have to use Chinese to make a phone call, but it is not very hard to just ask for "Mr. Ishibashi". Quote
