Please help me clarify 一点儿 and 有点儿

Sorry if this has been discussed before, I couldn't find it in my search.

I am still not absolutely comfortable with the usage of 一点儿 and 有点儿。

What is the general concensus regarding the preferential use of one over the other?

怎么说呢？我小的时候，学这两个表示也有点迷惑，但是随着时间的推移，我明白了一些，我不是研究语言的，所以下面只是我自己的的一点看法：

简单的说，当需要用哪种表示的时候就应当使用哪种表示。也就是说这是约定俗成的，在某种情况下，大家都倾向于使用其中一个词，那么你就不应当用另一个，否则，听你说话的人就会觉得别扭。

但是我还是可以给出几个例子，你可以从中看出一些区别：

这东西一点儿不便宜 means something isn't cheap,maybe even a little expensive.

这东西有点儿贵 means something isn't cheap,but not expensive too much.

只有一点儿 means there is a little/a few in amount

有点儿 means the degree of something that you want to describe is small or a little

但是，有时侯这两个词组表示的意思是相近的。例如：

你手头有多少钱？

这个时候如果回答： “一点儿”或者“有点儿”表示的意思就比较接近了，但是一般的说来，回答“有点儿”会比回答“一点儿”的钱数要多一点。

i learnt that you cannot say 有一点儿。

for example you can say 有点儿贵 or 贵一点儿
