dmr1203 Posted January 30, 2006 at 04:25 PM Report Posted January 30, 2006 at 04:25 PM I am going to BCLU in August for 4 weeks. I would like to get started on learning charachters. How many, and which ones do I need for the intermediate class? Anyone know? Thanks. Someone told me about flashcards that have the 700 mostly used charachters. Anyone heard of this? Quote

kimberlyandkeith Posted January 30, 2006 at 05:42 PM Report Posted January 30, 2006 at 05:42 PM http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0804833613/sr=1-1/qid=1138642884/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-2869737-3311358?%5Fencoding=UTF8 These are the Chinese in a Flash (2 volumes are available, each one is like 448 cards I believe?) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0835126781/sr=1-3/qid=1138642884/ref=pd_bbs_3/102-2869737-3311358?%5Fencoding=UTF8 This is a set of 888 most common words. I prefer Chinese in a Flash for the quantity of info on the card for actual studying. But the 888 has only the character on one side, which is REALLY nice for laying out to make sentences and practicing that way. They are both great sets, and I'm glad to have them both! Kimberly Quote

gato Posted January 31, 2006 at 12:49 AM Report Posted January 31, 2006 at 12:49 AM If you have a Palm or PocketPC, you might want to consider getting Plectodict, which is mainly a dictionary, but also has great flashcard program. You can configure it to study as many characters or words as you want. http://www.chinese-forums.com/showthread.php?p=57856&highlight=flashcard#post57856 The Cheng & Tsui character dictionary is also great. It's based on a dictionary published for Chinese learners in Singapore. It shows you the definitions, examples, and stroke orders for the 2000 most frequently used characters. It's small and sturdy, which is nice. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0887273149/ref=pd_sbs_b_1/104-7837783-9878338?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155 Cheng & Tsui Chinese Character Dictionary: A Guide to the 2,000 Most Frequently-Used Characters (Paperback) by Wang Huidi (Editor) Quote
