Buying Tai Chi Practice Swords in Beijing

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Anyone know of a good place in Beijing to buy Tai Chi swords (to actually practice with) in Beijing? I've been out to near the Sports University in ShangDi, but there were only a couple shops there with so-so selections.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, there's a lot of rubbish around. I'm lucky in that my 师兄 is a swordsmith, so my sword is custom-made

I know of quite a few people who use Long Quan (龙泉) swords. They're quite a well known and reputable brand so I'm sure you can get them in Beijing (they're made in Zhejiang province). You could probably give them a call and see if they can tell you a place in Beijing that sells them.

Other than that, probably your best bet is to find a Taiji instructor and ask him. There are a couple of people that practise (or at least used to practise) Chen style Taiji behind the 9 dragon wall at Beihai park on Saturday mornings - though this was 2-3 years ago so I don't know if they're still about. They also train with swords and other weapons so you could try going there and seeing if they can give you some suggestions.

Thanks, imron for the info. I ended up picking up a couple long quan brand swords and a couple practice swords from a few different shops out near the Sports University in Shang Di. There are 3 shops that I could find out there with an eclectic collection of various supplies. Other than that, I still haven't found a "good" source or place with a huge selection. I guess I'll just have to make do for now...

Thanks!
