dmr1203 Posted February 10, 2006 at 05:50 PM Report Posted February 10, 2006 at 05:50 PM I have done several searches, and I know that I want to attend the 4 week program with BLCU. I found out that applying directly saves a tone of money.....obviously. Here is my condern. I am trying to graduate this summer, and only need 6 hours of language credit. I have to get it or I cannot graduate. Can I get credit without applying with a middleman? Has anyone done this? The Center for Study Abroad tells me that typically students get 6 hours for the 4 week program. Ok, that is what I need. I need help. Quote
nerveandmuscle Posted February 11, 2006 at 12:25 AM Report Posted February 11, 2006 at 12:25 AM Why don't you ask your university (registar's office perhaps?) what the procedure is for transfer credit from another university? If you go to China and take a class at BLCU, it would be like taking a class at another US university during the summer and asking your home university to accept the credit. Your university's study abroad office might help you with this process. I'm not sure what CSA does which you can't do yourself other than perhaps translating your grade report. Quote
sargx Posted February 27, 2006 at 06:32 AM Report Posted February 27, 2006 at 06:32 AM you can get credit, but it depends on your school. For mine, I need to get the school approved by our study abroad office. After that I go to the chinese professors and tell them the courses I will take and they'll tell me the course equivalencies and how many credits i can get. Quote
dmr1203 Posted March 1, 2006 at 06:49 PM Author Report Posted March 1, 2006 at 06:49 PM My school is hung up on the fact that they are having trouble determining whether BLCU is an actual university, and by what means that it is accredited. They tell me that no student has ever done this, and they are figuring it out along the way. Quote
stephanhodges Posted March 1, 2006 at 09:53 PM Report Posted March 1, 2006 at 09:53 PM I think you can find several USA universities with exchange programs with BLCU. That should convince them. Quote
Ding Yiyi Posted March 3, 2006 at 02:37 AM Report Posted March 3, 2006 at 02:37 AM I have found one website, accessmandarin.com lets you apply directly to BLCU for one of their four-week sessions for a pretty low cost. I believe they also help you get a visa to China, which I understand to be quite a pain in the ass to get. Quote
nerveandmuscle Posted March 12, 2006 at 03:57 PM Report Posted March 12, 2006 at 03:57 PM Maybe you can also get a Chinese professor at your school to vouch for the "realness" of BLCU. I second the idea of finding other schools that do exchanges with BLCU. Maybe you can also show them a Chinese text that BLCU has published. Quote
Pengyou Posted March 15, 2006 at 07:05 AM Report Posted March 15, 2006 at 07:05 AM An option related to something that has been mentioned...if you can find a university that already accepts BLCU for credit, enroll in that university to get the credit, and then transfer the credit from that university to yours? It sounds messed up but I bet this would work, although it would cost you a little extra money. Quote
dmr1203 Posted March 17, 2006 at 04:08 PM Author Report Posted March 17, 2006 at 04:08 PM I wonder if that would be easier. My college does not teach Chinese, and therefore does not have a Chinese instructor on staff. They are telling me that they cannot gaurantee credit in advance of taking the class. They want a syllabus of the course, but I have been trying to get it for some time. They need more than just a course description. Does anyone have a syllabus? Quote
nerveandmuscle Posted March 20, 2006 at 11:30 PM Report Posted March 20, 2006 at 11:30 PM Does your school expect the syllabus to be in english? Quote
