mr. fanglang Posted February 14, 2006 at 01:30 PM Report Posted February 14, 2006 at 01:30 PM Does anyone know what the above term means? Quote
bilicon Posted February 14, 2006 at 03:51 PM Report Posted February 14, 2006 at 03:51 PM 供楼 is a new phrase. It means buy a apartment(楼) on the never - never . It also has a word 供车. similarly it means buy a car on the installment plan. I hope my poor english doesn't mislead you understand my meaning. Quote
amego Posted February 14, 2006 at 04:19 PM Report Posted February 14, 2006 at 04:19 PM I think it means the same as 供房子, meaning to support your house, to pay your monthly instalments for your house. Quote
Ian_Lee Posted February 14, 2006 at 06:42 PM Report Posted February 14, 2006 at 06:42 PM Pay the mortgage. But usually in Asia and even Europe there is seldom 30-yr mortgage as in the US because the bond market doesn't have enough depth. Quote
Ian_Lee Posted February 14, 2006 at 07:25 PM Report Posted February 14, 2006 at 07:25 PM By the way, does anybody know how to translate the term "reverse mortgage"? I guess it shouldn't be 反供楼 Quote
amego Posted February 14, 2006 at 07:48 PM Report Posted February 14, 2006 at 07:48 PM By the way, does anybody know how to translate the term "reverse mortgage"?I guess it shouldn't be 反供楼 Yes. Chinese doesn't work this way. Anyway, 供楼 literally means "support building", but the building here refers to an apartment. Reverse mortgage is 反向抵押贷款. Quote
Ian_Lee Posted February 14, 2006 at 08:15 PM Report Posted February 14, 2006 at 08:15 PM 楼 does not necessarily mean apartment even literally it means so. In HK, even if you buy single family home or townhouse (which there are still quite plenty in New Territories) and get a bank loan to pay the mortgage, you still call it 供楼. In U.S., when you refer to mortgage, i.e. mortgage interest rate, it strictly refers to property-related loan interest rate. Quote
