L-F-J Posted February 24, 2006 at 04:04 AM Report Posted February 24, 2006 at 04:04 AM I just came up with an idea and wonder if anyone has found such a thing online? I've studied on my own with friends for a few years now and wonder if there is a way to test my proficiency level to see where I am. I guess it would work kind of like an IQ test or something. Anyone know of any such thing online? Thanks! Quote
gougou Posted February 24, 2006 at 04:47 AM Report Posted February 24, 2006 at 04:47 AM You probably have heard of the HSK already, the most common exam for testing Chinese profiency. They have some mock tests online. I haven't taken them yet, so I can't tell you reliable they are. Quote
roddy Posted February 24, 2006 at 04:48 AM Report Posted February 24, 2006 at 04:48 AM Probably the best thing to do is to download one of the sample HSK papers - maybe you could get a bunch of people on here to do so and compare your scores. It's not really 'online' though. There are a few possible candidates provided by Chinese schools, such as this one, but I'm not sure how great they are. Quote
chinesetools Posted February 24, 2006 at 05:29 AM Report Posted February 24, 2006 at 05:29 AM Clavis Sinica has a "Chinese Character Test" that gives an estimate of how many characters you know after taking a quiz. Quote
necroflux Posted February 24, 2006 at 07:07 AM Report Posted February 24, 2006 at 07:07 AM The HSK Web site is terrible for a professional organization.. Good sample tests, though the pictures are ridiculously small and make answering some of the questions imposssible. Quote
L-F-J Posted February 24, 2006 at 07:18 AM Author Report Posted February 24, 2006 at 07:18 AM I noticed the same thing. In fact, I did another short test I found somewhere that was in pinyin and one question actually had incorrect pinyin in it. Maybe I did this character test wrong or something because I answered most of them correctly but at the end it said "you know approximately 0 characters" Quote
necroflux Posted February 24, 2006 at 08:17 AM Report Posted February 24, 2006 at 08:17 AM Yeah I think you're talking about the test that dynamically judges the number of characters you know as you go. It penalizes far too heavily for any missed answers. Ignore that test. Quote
dporter1465 Posted December 18, 2006 at 03:06 AM Report Posted December 18, 2006 at 03:06 AM The Chinese Character Test on the Clavis Sinica site now also provides average scores for past test-takers at various levels of study. You can see what the typical scores are on this test for students at each level to get a sense of how you compare and how long it might take to reach your own goals. Note that the past scores information is displayed only after you complete the test and submit your own score. Quote
