Ian_Lee Posted January 26, 2004 at 07:38 PM Report Posted January 26, 2004 at 07:38 PM It seems John Woo has lost his steam in Hollywood after his recent disappointing "Windtalker" and "The Paycheck". (Actually "windtalker" is not that bad and Woo even got invitation into the White House to see President Bush owing to this movie.) Maybe "Face Off" and "MI2" have exhausted Woo. Woo should go back to HK to recharge like Jackie Chan does. Quote
TSkillet Posted January 26, 2004 at 11:21 PM Report Posted January 26, 2004 at 11:21 PM Well, I thought John Woo's movies were a little overmelodramatic for US movies anyways (but I love his HK movies - go figure). It's gotten to the point, though, where a lot of things look like self-parody - the silence before a gun fight scene; the birds flying into the camera; the pistols pointed at each other's heads. I love John Woo movies - don't get me wrong (hell, I even went to see Paycheck) - but he should try something new. Face/Off is still his best US movie . . . by far. Quote
Ian_Lee Posted January 26, 2004 at 11:40 PM Author Report Posted January 26, 2004 at 11:40 PM Probably Woo had more room to maneuvre when he was filming in the HK studio. In Hollywood, Woo is confined by the more well defined Hollywood "System". I agree that "Face Off" has been Woo's best movie in Hollywood so far. The movie resembles more closely with Woo's other HK movies which the plot between good and bad is deliberately blurred. Quote
