How to say Shut Up ranging from polite to rude

In pinyin, can some one give me different ways to say; shut up/don't talk that are commonly used, ranging from non-offensive to quite abrupt.

Thank you

Non-offensive: Bie2 shuo1 le!

Zhu4 zui3! (Can't be sure if this is really non-offensive, as I found it in a dictionary  )

The only one I can contribute is "閉嘴" or bi4zui3, which I think would have to be on the harsher end of the spectrum, something a mother would say to a misbehaving child.

A dictionary search also revealed these, but I can't speak to their degree of intensity:

關上 guan1shang4

關門 guan1men2

住口 zhu4kou3

Not to hijack the thread, but are you a student at ISU? That is my alma mater. :)

住嘴 is a bit offensive.

The normal way is 别说了

Or you can say 打住吧, 得(de2)了吧, 你省省吧 if you want the person to know that he's annoying.

闭你的粪门 bi4ni3defen4men2 is probably pretty offensive. (Maybe like saying "Shut your piehole", although that sounds a lot nicer).

I've also heard 你少说两句 ni3shao3shuo1liang3ju4.

Then there's also: 别胡说! bie2hu2shuo1 Stop talking nonsense.

I suppose 请安静, qing3 an1jing4, could be used as very unoffensive, though really it's "please be quiet" rather than "shut up."

Are you looking for something you could say to strangers, say if someone is talking in the cinema? Or just in conversation with people you already know?

嘘~~~~(xu1 , put your pointfinger against your lips)

别说啦!(bie2 shuo1 la) (well it's complicated to say it's rude or polite becoz with different tones it varies much)

闭嘴(bi4zui3) 住口(zhu4kou3) (you can order him to shup up. but when i am with my close friend i can also use it)

I think to be polite or rude, it depends on how you say the words. ^_^

Beautiful campus. 8) I wish I could be there right now.

I have heard simply 安静 An1 Jing4 for "be quiet". It's a very soft sounding word so I don't think it's harsh. But as Cynthia mentionded, rude or polite depends on your tone of voice. 闭嘴, 住口, or 住嘴 (bi4 zui3, zhu4 kou3, zhu4 zui3) are all literally saying to "close mouth". So as it can be something to say to your friends without offending them, it's not something I'd say to a stranger. 安静 An1 Jing4 sounds best for people you don't know such as in a movie theater. Or to be even more polite, 请安静 Qing3 An1 Jing4, "please be quiet".

A long one...ni3 bu4 kai1 kou3 mei2 ren2 hui4 dang1 ni3 shi4 ya3 ba5 "If you don't speak, no one will think you're dumb."

不好意思,你有點打擾到我了

請問可以小聲一點ㄇ

安靜一點,好不好

閉嘴

閉上你的鳥嘴

吵什麼吵

幹你他媽的閉嘴啦

a gooden in taiwanese

你在靠腰喔

these last few will probably get your a swift kick in the nuts... disclaimer

reminds me of a funny irish idiom,

Is minic a bhris beal duine a shrone,

Many a time a man's mouth has broken his nose...

have fun

消停会儿!

xiao1 ting2 hui4 er!

Though, ting2 here is read as light tone and hui4 is read as third tone mostly.

(I'm not sure whether it's some kind of dialect or not.)
