Jose Posted March 12, 2006 at 04:23 PM Report Share Posted March 12, 2006 at 04:23 PM I have been trying to acccess www.google.cn, but I've found that I'm always redirected to www.google.com when I type the ".cn" URL. This is strange because I can type "www.google.es" or "www.google.co.uk" and go to other international versions of Google. Does anyone know whether Google's Chinese site is down for any reason? Or have Google decided to block their Chinese site from outside China?
liuzhou Posted March 12, 2006 at 05:09 PM Report Share Posted March 12, 2006 at 05:09 PM It's nothing to do with you being outside China. The same happens here from time to time. At the moment it is redirecting to the .com site, but sometimes it doesn't. I guess this is setting up problems.
zhwj Posted March 12, 2006 at 05:28 PM Report Share Posted March 12, 2006 at 05:28 PM It's also likely to have something to do with the legal limbo google.cn finds itself in right now - apparently Google didn't go through the proper channels to get a website operating license from the MII, but rather used the license number of a domestic partner. They got called on it, and they might be diverting to the US host until the issue is resolved. http://www.forbes.com/work/feeds/afx/2006/02/23/afx2547661.html If you really want to use the google.cn server, do a Baidu search for google.cn, and use the Baidu cache link: http://cache.baidu.com/c?word=&url=http%3A//google%2Ecn/&b=0&a=2&user=baidu
