TheYeti Posted March 14, 2006 at 02:51 AM Report Posted March 14, 2006 at 02:51 AM 欢迎来到人人可编辑的WikiTNT! The WikiTNT project is started by a Chinese graduate student at Vanderbilt University. It is modelled after the Wikipedia Concept: users/members editable entries. The project is still in its infancy and currently has just under 400 entries and about 30 contributors. Categories include 4 word idioms, colloquiallisms, metaphor-quiz-cracks (e.g. Clay Buddha Crossing the River; has trouble taking care of himself.)...and so on. Come and have a look and perhaps consider becoming a member to contribute new entries or edit existing ones. http://lindy.dre.vanderbilt.edu/wikitnt/index.php/%E9%A6%96%E9%A1%B5 Right now the instructions are in Chinese, but not difficult enough to deter anyone who have a basic knowledge of the language. trevelyan Posted March 14, 2006 at 08:27 AM Report Posted March 14, 2006 at 08:27 AM Two comments: (1) There are other collaborative translation resources, such as CEDICT and Adso. Both allow contributors to provide relatively detailed English commentary on Chinese terminology, including usage, source, etc., and share the results with the community. Most existing free study resources are based on these resources. Is WikiTNT releasing content under an open source license or is it just aiming to be an online dictionary? I guess I'm asking why I should contribute to it rather than CEDICT or Adso, or if the site is releasing data in other ways that play nicely with other projects? (2) Technically, the site doesn't seem to separate the actual translations of the Chinese terms from their descriptions, which means that even if the data is shared it will be of limited use for machine translation and annotation projects. Looks like a nice start though. Kudos. Quote
