meilin Posted March 15, 2006 at 10:58 PM Report Posted March 15, 2006 at 10:58 PM Hey, I don't actually have time to write my suggestions here, but I would appreciate translation help with these sentences. Basically they have to be as accurate to the wording of the original as possible...and the sentences must remain in that order. Also, where it has a character after it such as (把), then that character and sentence structure must be used somewhere in the sentence. Thankyou in advance:wink: 1. In Shanghai you must wear very warm clothes in winter, e.g. a leather jacket, a woolen jumper or an overcoat, otherwise you might freeze to death! 2. There were so many people on the bus. I almost couldn't get on. For how long have you borrowed the dictionary from the library? You must return it tomorrow, otherwise the library won't let you borrow books for three months. 4. The weather forecast says that it will be cold and rainy tomorrow. The outside temperature will be 5 degrees. You should put on (穿上) your cotton-padded jacket.(把) 5. Xiao Ding invited Mark to go to the movies tonight. Mark said that he didn't know whether he could go because he wasn't sure (= didn't know) if he could finish all the exercises that his teacher sked him to do today. Mark told Mary: "Don't forget to tell my mother to post my Chinese textbooks to China." When you come to my home tomorrow, please bring the novel that I lent to you last week. If he is at home, could you give him the down jacket and gloves that he asked me to buy for him in China?(把) 9. Fortunately Xiao Wang told Mark in the post office how to write the address in Chinese, otherwise Mark wouldn't have known how to send his parcel to his friend in Beijing. Shanghai is so cold in winter. I bought many thick clothes last month. Oh, yes, don't forget to tell my father to send some money to me quickly. If he doesn't post the money next week, I won't be able to pay my telephone bill. (付不起) THANKYOU VERY MUCH...also a fast response would be appreciated, as this is due tomorrow (17/3/06) 美琳 Quote

meilin Posted March 16, 2006 at 10:35 AM Author Report Posted March 16, 2006 at 10:35 AM Yeh, I apologise for not writing up suggestions first. I only had 20mins before I went to uni, and yeh...almost couldn't fit in time to write the post at all...so anyway, here's my suggestion of Chinese answer. 1. In Shanghai you must wear very warm clothes in winter, e.g. a leather jacket, a woolen jumper or an overcoat, otherwise you might freeze to death! 2. There were so many people on the bus. I almost couldn't get on. 3. For how long have you borrowed the dictionary from the library? You must return it tomorrow, otherwise the library won't let you borrow books for three months. 4. The weather forecast says that it will be cold and rainy tomorrow. The outside temperature will be 5 degrees. You should put on (穿上) your cotton-padded jacket.(把) 天气预报说明天的天气会冷还有下雨。 5. Xiao Ding invited Mark to go to the movies tonight. Mark said that he didn't know whether he could go because he wasn't sure (= didn't know) if he could finish all the exercises that his teacher sked him to do today. 6. Mark told Mary: "Don't forget to tell my mother to post my Chinese textbooks to China." “ 7. When you come to my home tomorrow, please bring the novel that I lent to you last week. (把) 你明天来我家的时候,请别忘记把我上个星期借给你的小说带来。 8. If he is at home, could you give him the down jacket and gloves that he asked me to buy for him in China?(把) 如果他在家,你可以把他叫我在中国买给他的鸭绒衣和手套给他吗? 9. Fortunately Xiao Wang told Mark in the post office how to write the address in Chinese, otherwise Mark wouldn't have known how to send his parcel to his friend in Beijing. (把) 幸亏小王在邮局里的时候告诉马克怎么用中文写地址了,要不然马克就不知道怎么把包裹寄给他在北京的朋友。 10. Shanghai is so cold in winter. I bought many thick clothes last month. Oh, yes, don't forget to tell my father to send some money to me quickly. If he doesn't post the money next week, I won't be able to pay my telephone bill. (付不起) 上海冬天的时候很冷。我上个月买了很多厚衣服。哦,对了,别忘记叫我爸爸快点寄钱给我。如果他下个星期不寄钱。我就付不起我的电话费。 ok, now I think it's more appropriate to ask for help:help ....sorry.... 不好意思(sh) thx:wink: 美琳 Quote
necroflux Posted March 16, 2006 at 10:42 AM Report Posted March 16, 2006 at 10:42 AM Meilin, no worries - while I think my post was funny, looking back I was a bit more caustic than I ever am when I wrote it. I was up late and I get cranky when I'm tired. Hashiri's post was much more diplomatically stated. (Ever considered that as a career option? ) Quote
meilin Posted March 16, 2006 at 01:55 PM Author Report Posted March 16, 2006 at 01:55 PM no problem, I understand anyway...just i didn't have the time at that point...i could have provided reason though, instead of just saying that things...anyway...nevermind... Quote
