Shanghai/Hong Kong

Recommended Posts

Hardly any two Chinese cities bear more resemblance than Shanghai and Hong Kong.

In fact, they were/are influencing each other.

Now Shanghai youths find it chic to frequent the modern shopping mall Xintiandi built by HK tycoon Vincent Lo (Lo is teased as son-in-law of Shanghai)

But merely 55 years ago, it was the other way around.

After '49, all four big department stores -- Wing On, Dah Sun, Sincere, Shui Hing -- moved their headquarters from Shanghai to Hong Kong.

By that time, Shanghai style was chic in Hong Kong.
