yingguoguy Posted March 28, 2006 at 01:52 PM Report Posted March 28, 2006 at 01:52 PM In the hope that it will be helpful I've attached a file which I have generated from Cedict. It lists two syllable words which contain a lot (4 or more) homonyms, arranged into 5 by 5 tables based on their differing tones. Err, hard to explain but easy to understand if you take a look. I've been using it to work on my tone discrimination, I do a similar exercise with my students in English for vowel sounds. I get a native speaker to say a word at random and then I point to what I hear. After a few repetitions we change places and they point to what they think I'm saying, or more often look completely confused and claim it's not there at all. The hardest part is getting them not to do those hand-waving movements that Chinese people do when they have to consiously think about tones which are a dead give-away Hope this is useful and please let me know of any suggestions/bug reports. matchingtones.doc Quote
