skunkpuppy Posted March 28, 2006 at 04:00 PM Report Posted March 28, 2006 at 04:00 PM I'm guessing it's nonsense. Do the characters even exist? Anyway, eye candy for the ladies. http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/5120/commando2wh.jpg Quote
wrwills Posted March 29, 2006 at 04:11 AM Report Posted March 29, 2006 at 04:11 AM The characters themselves exist I think, though I think there's a stroke too many on the top character. My guess would be that they are 夫心伐大 The phrase itself does seem to be nonsense, but if the 伐 lost a stroke to become 代 then it might conceivably have something to do with this line from chapter 74 of the 道德经: 夫 代 司 殺 者 殺 , 是 謂 代 大 匠 斲 (To take on the Grim Reaper's work in killing is like trying to take on a master carpenter's work in cutting wood.) How do you say "six pack" and "iliac crest" in Chinese? Quote
L-F-J Posted March 29, 2006 at 04:24 PM Report Posted March 29, 2006 at 04:24 PM 失心找头 shi1 xin1 zhao3 tou2 Quote
Lu Posted March 29, 2006 at 04:27 PM Report Posted March 29, 2006 at 04:27 PM Is it a 找? It looks like a 伐. The 心 is mirrored. Quote
L-F-J Posted March 29, 2006 at 04:37 PM Report Posted March 29, 2006 at 04:37 PM I don't know. Just giving another suggestion. Instead of 失心找头 it's most likely 夫心伐大/头. 心 is mirrored so it's dumb anyway. Quote
Apple Posted April 5, 2006 at 12:26 AM Report Posted April 5, 2006 at 12:26 AM Someone put the stencil on backwards, it seems.Looks like the first two characters are mirrored 決心 (simplified version is 决心) jue2 xin1. Those first two mean determination/resolution. I think the last one might be backwards too: 夭 yao1. Not sure. Quote
L-F-J Posted April 5, 2006 at 04:38 AM Report Posted April 5, 2006 at 04:38 AM Wow, you're smart. Too bad the tattoo artist isn't, nor is the guy who let that be put on him. It is a backward 决心. I can't wait 'till I see a westerner with a shirt that says: 非懂汉字但穿汉字衣之人笨也 Quote
Lu Posted April 6, 2006 at 01:44 PM Report Posted April 6, 2006 at 01:44 PM LOL, that's brilliant! You should make that shirt and sell it, you'll make money and we'll have a good laugh when we actually see it. Quote
self-taught-mba Posted April 6, 2006 at 07:48 PM Report Posted April 6, 2006 at 07:48 PM No doubt one more example about why you need to check into it before you get a tatoo. "eye candy" no doubt I can see the female members on this forum having to examine the authenticity of the Chinese characters Meanwhile, somewhere a teenage girl is staring at this thing when her mom walks in and the girl says, "But Mom, I'm just trying to learn Chinese".LOL Quote
Quest Posted April 6, 2006 at 10:27 PM Report Posted April 6, 2006 at 10:27 PM Is that his name? Quote
