Jockster Posted April 9, 2006 at 12:02 PM Report Posted April 9, 2006 at 12:02 PM Can anyone recommend any software that allows you to break down a Chinese character into its components, and explain the meaning of each component and doesn't cost a bundle? I like the etymology section on Yellowbridge's site (link below) and have read the praise for Wenlin on this site, but I consider it a bit on the expensive side. http://www.yellowbridge.com/language/wordsearch.php?searchChinese=1&chineseWord=%E9%9B%BB%E8%85%A6 Related to this, have you by any chance installed Hanzim on a computer running WindowsXP Home Edition, and did it work well? This freeware program can be found at: http://kamares.ucsd.edu/~arobert/hanzim.html Thanks in advance! Quote
aeon Posted April 9, 2006 at 06:34 PM Report Posted April 9, 2006 at 06:34 PM I know it's not software, but have you tried the website Zhongwen.com? Quote
Jockster Posted April 10, 2006 at 01:20 AM Author Report Posted April 10, 2006 at 01:20 AM Yes, I've checked out that site, but I find Yellowbridge a bit easier to use. From the links and references on Yellowbridge, though, it seems like the two sites are linked. The reason why I wuold be interested using some software for this is that using websites can be a bit slow at times, that's all. Quote
