this is from the taiwanese short story, death in a cornfield.

我是某日報的駐華府特派員

the english translation says "I was then a foreign correspondant for a Taiwanese newspaper."

i can't find the meaning of 駐華府

later, the short uses "駐外記者"

what is the meaning of these terms and why can't i find it in my dictionary?

駐外記者: a correspondent stationed overseas

華府 - Washington (never seen this before, Washington is usually 华盛顿. Old / Taiwanese usage?)

特派員 - correspondent, emissary. Specially despatched person, literally.

The English translation has omitted the Washington bit, presumably because it's clear from the context.

I have trouble with that the first time round, as I figured 華府 was some kind of wierd old abbreviation for 中华政府

華府 is the short form of 华盛顿政府(the Washington Government ---> the US Administration). 華府 is mostly used in Taiwan, not mainland China.

i feel that the grammar of this one is tricky.

i am reading "my hard to deal with ?? handling some people with no specific duties."

I don't know how to translate 尚在 and deng3 of 人等

人等: some kind of people

the complete meaning:

the difficulty I am faced with now is to dealing with (coping with) the people who has no specific purposes (duties).

尚=still

等 here in this phrase means 'kinds'
