tlevine Posted April 15, 2006 at 03:58 AM Report Posted April 15, 2006 at 03:58 AM At least where I live, most people want their children to attent a prestigious college like MIT or Harvard and work very hard to allow their children to attend such a college. There are all sorts of seemingly stupid things that people will do just because they look good on college applications. Assuming they know Chinese well enough, how hard is it for foreign students to get into prestigious Chinese Universities like Beijing University for undergraduate study? How often are applications rejected? Quote
Zhende ma? They sometimes will give you a year to catch up though taking Chinese classes from what I've seen. If you really want to go undergrad and you have good grades I don't see why they wouldn't let you in. You will need letters of reference, essays, etc. but I'm pretty optimistic you have a good shot Quote
mrtoga Posted April 28, 2006 at 07:59 AM Report Posted April 28, 2006 at 07:59 AM They encourage foreign students. Can't speak for Beida, but the universities we work with are looking to internationalize and welcome foreign students. Usually you will need Level 6 HSK, although lower-standard universities often accept Level 4 HSK for engineering / scientific courses. If you have this and a high school graduation from your home country you are generally eligible, although there is of course an admission procedure that must be completed. Masters programmes also require Level 6, and you will generally need a recommendation from a tutor at your previous university. Doctorate courses operate in the same way, and at some universities like Harbin Institute of Technlogy and Jilin you can take them in English (although the tuition fee payable for the English-based courses is higher). Scholarships are often available for foreign students on doctorate courses too. Quote
