Shadowdh Posted April 27, 2006 at 11:41 AM Report Posted April 27, 2006 at 11:41 AM Hi all, lately I have noticed that thatsbj is really slow when it comes to accessing pages and so forth is it just me or do others have the same prob...?? Quote
roddy Posted April 27, 2006 at 11:48 PM Report Posted April 27, 2006 at 11:48 PM If I remember correctly their servers are based in Beijing - how do you fare with other Beijing-based sites like adsotrans.com? Quote
Shadowdh Posted April 28, 2006 at 06:34 AM Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 at 06:34 AM Hi Roddy, Adsotrans is much faster than bj.com... the pages come up in about a second or two for adso... but with bj in can take up to a couple of minutes or more...!! (btw thanks for making me take a second look at adso... what a great site...) Quote
CoffeeRider Posted May 5, 2006 at 02:56 PM Report Posted May 5, 2006 at 02:56 PM thatsbj.com is a pretty horrible website for such a GREAT magazine. I think they need some better webmasters (no offense if anyone on here is one of their web people) or at least a complete overhaul. Have you tried accessing the forum? It pops up in a frame in the middle of the page and its a nightmare to figure out which window you are scrolling in. Quote
Shadowdh Posted May 5, 2006 at 03:54 PM Author Report Posted May 5, 2006 at 03:54 PM Hehe Yeah it does that sometimes Coffeerider... it used to be really fast but recently has slowed alot... its a great site though... Quote
CoffeeRider Posted May 5, 2006 at 06:11 PM Report Posted May 5, 2006 at 06:11 PM I actually much prefer the print version... honestly wish I could subscribe to it here in the states while I am finishing my studies and awaiting my return to China. Either that or just offer the same content online that the magazine does. Quote
m_r_forrester Posted July 3, 2006 at 09:16 AM Report Posted July 3, 2006 at 09:16 AM The website used to be produced by a completely different company to the magazine, though that may have changed. The ownership of all the That's outlets is very complex and currently subject to a major Chinese lawsuit too. Quote
jimba_the_hut Posted July 24, 2006 at 11:55 AM Report Posted July 24, 2006 at 11:55 AM Current crack downs on major internet sites has slowed thingss down considerably for Zhong guo surfers. Can't even access ThatsBJ website from OZ... Gawd Bless em. Quote
roddy Posted July 24, 2006 at 12:02 PM Report Posted July 24, 2006 at 12:02 PM What current crack down? Thatsbj.com is working the same as ever for me in Beijing, and I haven't noticed any problems with other sites (apart from, y'know, the blocking of major news sources. And weblog hosts. And human rights sites. Y'know, everyday stuff . . .) Quote
Shadowdh Posted July 24, 2006 at 01:06 PM Author Report Posted July 24, 2006 at 01:06 PM Hi there, while I havent tried accessing many of the "banned" sites, I have had little problem here in Beijing accessing pretty much any site I have tried thus far (which is admittedly few really and I could get into Liuzhous blog) I can get to my blog site with no probs and I have found that since arriving in Beijing Thatsbj.com has been incredibly quick when viewing. I am now thinking it may be an exchange issue with my local network in the UK... When I left it was beter but still slow, now superfast... Quote
roddy Posted August 13, 2006 at 12:59 AM Report Posted August 13, 2006 at 12:59 AM Is anyone else having issues accessing thatsbj.com at the moment? I can only get through via proxy (I'm on Beijing Netcom). Quote
Shadowdh Posted August 14, 2006 at 07:13 AM Author Report Posted August 14, 2006 at 07:13 AM Hi Roddy, Just tried it and its as quick as ever... no probs with access either... Quote
roddy Posted August 14, 2006 at 07:25 AM Report Posted August 14, 2006 at 07:25 AM Yeah, seems to have cleared up over the weekend. Had a quick look on their own forums and couldn't see anything about it, so I'll assume it was just me. Quote
