ZhuJiesheng Posted April 27, 2006 at 01:21 PM Report Posted April 27, 2006 at 01:21 PM I've had to translate a story for coursework and I decided on a fable about an old woman and a physician. I'm not sure on some of the grammer points so was hoping someone could point out any particularly bad mistakes If there are any bits that make no sense whatsoever then I'll post what I was trying to say ^^ 谢谢! Quote

Lonfone Posted April 28, 2006 at 01:10 AM Report Posted April 28, 2006 at 01:10 AM hi, ZhuJiesheng . I have not read your story in your language, I have correct your chinese version of the story according to our word. I have marked your unproper word with Red color and replaced with the proper word in the '(' and ')' with Blue color. Empty Between '(' and ')' means you should remove the Red word from the sentense, and more than one a pair of '(' and ')' following a Red-mark mean Anyone of them are proper to be used. In chinese '盲目性' is a noun, means ' Doing something without deep thought or without target' , When a person is doing something but he or she do not know why or how to do it , he or she just DO the things, we say he has '盲目性' . It just describe a man do like a blind man, not real blind at all. '盲目' have two meaning in English , 'Blind Eye(s)' or 'Doing things like a blind man' '付钱给我' in English like 'Pay money to me' , 付 -- Pay, 钱 -- money, 给-- to , 我 -- me , It is the same with word by word translation. In some FangYan (方言) , Some time '给' would be omitted as '付钱我', but this is not correct in 普通话 this also can be said '付给我钱', or '付我钱' or '给我钱', Like 'Pay me money' or 'Give me money ' in English. here '付' '给' '付给' have similar meanings. More deep to tell different among them, '付' '付给' refer to 'pay' In english, '给' refer to 'give' In English Quote
sissi Posted April 28, 2006 at 02:55 AM Report Posted April 28, 2006 at 02:55 AM
ZhuJiesheng Posted April 28, 2006 at 06:38 PM Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 at 06:38 PM Thanks very much for the replies, they've been very helpful; especially Lonfon's as I was actually quite confused on the uses of the different 'blind' words. Quote
