twilightwind Posted April 27, 2006 at 06:56 PM Report Posted April 27, 2006 at 06:56 PM How do you read Japanese names in Chinese? The Japanese use characters too, but they have a diferent system. Like the name Utada Hikaru (宇多田光), which I think is read in Hán-Việt is Vũđađiền Quang. Are Japanese names read by Chinese people just read as Japanese or is it changed? Quote
skylee Posted April 27, 2006 at 10:20 PM Report Posted April 27, 2006 at 10:20 PM For 宇多田光, we call her Yu3 Duo1 Tian2 Guang1, i.e. Chinese pronunciation of the characters. Quote
Antares Posted May 23, 2006 at 05:44 AM Report Posted May 23, 2006 at 05:44 AM ^ a little more to add on dat if one's name (in japanese) is in kana (japanese characters), we just change it in kanji (chinese letters) with the same pronunciation n read the kanji with chinese pronunciation ex: 宇多田ヒカル (Utada Hikaru)(Japanese) >> since ヒカル=光 >> (chinese) 宇多田光 (yu duo tian guang) Quote
