Thanks it's from 爸爸成末年 which was this little 20 minute peace on tv I saw yesterday and repeated today, it looks like student film about a kid becoming a parent at 16 fairly simple to follow and good listening peace I thought, can be downloaded from that site which has bt at the start and china at the end.

Though I've never heard of this piece, I was wondering if the title should be 爸爸未成年. 未成年 means 'under age'. Could you tell us in what context is '越开越大' used? The pattern 越....越 is as The more...., the more..../The less....,the less...

Ahh thank you yes semantic should be 末成年. Ok thanks for the other help both.

The context is the father quit his job, 辞职下海. Then this sentence 凭借技术和经验将公司越开越大. So my guess is something like after quitting his job the father used his ("borrowed ??") skills and experience to open and expand more businesses (his own??). What does 将 mean here?

once again, you've used 末 (mo4) instead of 未 (wei4).

凭借 is better translated as rely upon, rather than borrowed.

In this context, 将 means the same as 把. It's often used in more formal writing instead of 把 but the meaning is the same.

here 开 is from the phrase 开公司, which means to start a business. So, the longer the business stayed in business (越开) the bigger the business got (越大)

So, perhaps a better translation would be.

(The father) relied upon his skills and experience to make the business more and more successful.

oops, yeah, 'gs' is what I meant to type... funnily enough I had just used 'gs' to type 末 so I don't know how 'si' got there
