Live Punk/Metal Music in Beijing?

Recommended Posts

First, sorry if this should be in the Music forum, but I thought this was more appropriate... Leisure/Fun/etc.

Basically, my question is:

Anyone know of a place where I can see/hear live punk/metal/R&R bands in Beijing?

-It doesn't have to be in English.

-It doesn't even have to be good.

-I just want to hear something that ISN'T a Backstreet Boys derivative, an R&B ballad, S.H.E.-inspired, or a dance/techno track.

I've found the Jazz. I've found the folkie singer type. Now I'm looking for "crunchy guitars" and screaming. Any suggestions?

If it helps put things in perspective.... I like Cui Jian. Similar to him and/or "more obnoxious" would be great.

Thanks,

magores

And another great place to check is the That's Beijing printed version (or online www.thatsbj.com/, they should have it) which has a pretty extensive listing of local music events of all colors.

you could also try chaile.org

TY.

I knew about That's BJ, but didn't know about chiale.org

At first glance, it looks great.

Thanks again.

just pick up the print copies of thats beijing, City Weekend and Time Out Beijing. They have a list of upcoming shows and you can tell who's playing most of the times. A lot of the pubs/bars in the Haidian area have rock bands.

Don't forget Beijing's answer to CBGB: yigongyishan ( behind the bus bar). they had some really cool Norvegian Heavy metal bands play there a while back

Yu gong yi shan 愚公移山, near the Workers' Stadium, extremely hard to find, but it has good music. I saw Cui Jian there, and Wang Lei...

Other places: the Nameless Highland bar; Get Lucky (I think it was 毫运 in Chinese); and many more. Like Doumeizhen and badr say, check out That's BJ.
