没的挑

Hi all,

Has anyone of you heard this expression : 没的挑 ? I found it in a HSK sample test today, but strange enough, I couldn't find any mention of it in whatever dictionary I browsed. From the context, I guess it means something like "quite good, perfect, irreproachable", and judging by its countless occurences on the Web (just try to google it and you'll see), it seems to be very common in colloquial speech. Can anyone confirm the meaning of this curious expression ?

yse, you are right, 没的(得)挑 just means perfect.

Before I explain this phrase, let me give you another one which you may be familiar with: "鸡蛋里挑骨头",which literally means "(sb. try) to pick out bone from inside a egg", is there bone in a egg? NO! so sb. is to trying to "pick a Hole in your coat!" or "to fix on some small offence as censurable". Now let's get back to 没的挑, it means "not be able to pick out (bone from inside a egg)",does it make sense to you now?

It should be 没得挑。

没得 = no way to/ no way of

挑 [毛病] = pick [defects/mistakes]

There's no way one can find mistakes in/from ....

Also, there's another literal meaning of 沒的挑--there's nothing else you can choose because something is the only thing left.

Ex: 只剩下這個了,你沒的挑了. This the only thing left, you have no choice.

Thanks for all your answers. When 沒的挑 is written as 没得挑, everything becomes clear. (The Mathews' say :"没得 : impossible ; cannot be done ; there is not")
