Cantonese tones practice materials?

Recommended Posts

Posted

When I learnt Mandarin, I used the cassettes of Practical Chinese Reader and we spent a lot of time repeating the tones with different syllables, e.g. ma1 ma2 ma3 ma4 and so on for all the syllables. We did this for quite a few hours and I feel this gave me a good basis in the sounds and pronunciation.

I am using Pimsleur Cantonese at the moment but it doesn't include any pronunciation drills like this. It seems to be a problem as I can hear when I repeat phrases that my pronunciation is off, like a song sung out of tune, but I need more practice to correct it than is provided for with Pimsleur,

Does anyone know of a course which has some "listen and repeat" drills like that for Cantonese?
