I've been listening to the chinese pod podcasts to keep myself from forgetting what little chinese I know, and I plan to keep doing so along with other work, to keep myself involved until fall when I'll be back in chinese classes again. Anyway, all the time on this I hear them say something like "jingchang" or "qingchang" or something like that (my ear isnt very good yet for words I don't already know) in a way that i'm pretty sure they mean 常常. it seems like a pretty useful expression, and a good thing to know since they never seem to actually say 常常, so what is it that they're actually saying? am I right about what it means?

any help would be appreciated, thanks!

经常, jing1chang2: daily, day-to-day, frequently, constantly, regularly, often.

他经常帮助他人。(He never fails to help others)*

小马词典 has a few synonyms and similar phrases when you look specific words or phrases up. You can go onto 小马词典 and type in 常常, or any other word or phrase that you need to find similar phrases for. :)

For 常常, I see words such as 经常,日常,正常,and 通常.

I hope this helps! :)

Actually, 日常(daily),正常(normally),and 通常(usually) are quite different from 常常 and 经常。

If you want more synonym besides these two, maybe you can use 时常

常常,经常,they are nearly the same, both in meaning and usage

他常常帮助别人,他经常帮助别人

“他通常帮助别人”isn't a complete sentence,we can say"通常,他很愿意帮助别人"

I think the counterpart in english is"in general,in most situations"

For the most part they do but 平常 can be used in a few more different ways. Like you can say 平常生活 but you can't say 常常
